Dr. Howard's approach makes so much more sense than the typical focus on *losing* weight. I have found this CD very helpful and very effective and would highly recommend it to others.

I did not find "Freeing Yourself of Excess Weight" at all helpful. Martha Howard's voice is very tentative, almost tremulous, as if she's uncomfortable with being recorded; the pacing is awkward. I did not find myself "going deep," as I have with some other recordings. Also, Howard recommends a number of techniques, such as counting calories, that I have tried in the past and found to be effective, perhaps, in the short term, but not in the long term. Some, like being advised to imagine carrying a gallon of water and a bag of sugar and then setting them down, as a way to imagine what you'll feel like when you've lost 13 pounds, may be good for beginning weight loss, but if you lose 30 pounds, 50 pounds...that sort of imagining becomes pretty useless. There are other weight loss CDs that I would recommend before this one.
