by Belleruth Naparstek

This powerful, research-vetted guided imagery treatment for PTSD, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue reduces the distressing, persistent symptoms of posttraumatic stress: flashbacks, nightmares, sleep and concentration problems, hypervigilance, anxiety, panic, irritability, temper eruptions, emotional numbness, shame, isolation and loneliness.

Created by foremost guided imagery specialist Belleruth Naparstek for Health Journeys, this guided meditation was proven effective in several studies with sufferers of persistent trauma who were in need of effective PTSD treatment.

This guided meditation for healing posttraumatic stress was made with the help of trauma experts as well as sufferers of posttraumatic stress: combat veterans, survivors of motor vehicle accidents, criminal assault, domestic violence, traumatic grief, bombings, natural disasters, ICU stays and childhood sexual abuse, as well as those who witness, document and clean up after traumatic events - first responders, journalists, photographers, therapists and bystanders.

The hypnotic, healing suggestions go very deep, and are designed to counter ugly flashbacks and nightmares with positive images. Additional segments reduce the intense spikes of anxiety and serve as treatment for panic attacks, along with anger and fury; others shift the tendency toward avoidance, numbness and isolation.

Empowering and effective, this guided PTSD treatment increases self-esteem, confidence and sense of self-worth.

A separate track of affirmations bolsters the PTSD treatment process with quick, positive reminders in a briefer format which can be heard and enjoyed while engaged in other activities, including driving.

For recent trauma, we suggest starting with the less intense, self-calming imagery for Healthful Sleep and Relaxation and Wellness; then, once self-soothing skills are in place, (usually after daily use for 2-4 weeks), moving on to this guided treatment for PTSD, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. For people with more seasoned wounds, this program can work quickly and well. However each listener should be guided by what feels best and respect his or her own reactions and timing. (60 min.)

Read some reviews and listen to a sample so you can see for yourself why this program for PTSD treatment is a word-of-mouth favorite and recommended by psychotherapists nationwide, as well as distributed by the US military, Kaiser Permanente, the American Red Cross and the Mayo Clinic.

This is a fantastic audio. In fact it was the reviews that persuaded me to buy it and I wasn't disappointed, it was everything they said and more. It is a very moving and touching meditation/exercise to do, it touches the heart of the matter and goes right to the core. Trauma is a wound, a deep hurt, it really is akin to having your heart broken, particularly true with familial trauma. Highly recommended!

There is a reason that Healing Trauma is getting 5-star reviews and that is because it is arguably the best guided imagery resource out there, bar none. And, as many others write below, it is my favorite as well. The heart-based imagery/journey is fantastic and I am not ashamed to admit that a healing river of tears flows whenever I listen to it. I even get a bit misty-eyed in an uplifting way just thinking about, or in this case, writing about it. This imagery is my old friend and when I need a boost, this is where I start. As Belleruth mentions, it definitely goes deep so please follow her recommendation about where to start.

I have a couple of imagery CD's but this one is the best. It motivates me to use it and I no longer resist meditation. I like that it is tailored for PTSD. And the daily affirmations are added bonus.

Truly healing. It allows me to cry in the most cleansing way... getting down to the root of repressed emotions I usually am not aware of. If I tried to tell a therapist what I feel, I honestly could not. Most physicians ignored my emotional traumas and incorrectly diagnosed me for 16 years. I finally found that these abusive and traumatic events caused my sickness. While listening to this I am in touch with my emotional self for maybe the first time. I didn't know how much I was hurt by events that happened to me in the past. I see different helpers and details each time I listen, which is exciting. I feel as though the images are happening to me on some deep spiritual level. Thank you so much for these guided imagery sessions. I will use more again for myself and recommend them.

I've listened to Belleruth's PTSD guided imagery and affirmation almost the entire duration of my 4 1/2 years of therapy to help me overcome the effects of childhood sexual abuse. My therapist recommended this audio CD to me and I cannot tell you how incredibly helpful it is. I found it an indispensable part of my therapy and a VERY wonderful and powerful tool. Considering the cost of therapy against the cost of this MP3, it's ridiculously affordable. Thank you Belleruth for your voice and your healing words—it is one of the truest and steadfast friends I've ever met. Friends for life, in fact.

Thank you so much for this CD. The guided imagery was a companion to me through the awakening memories of long-suppressed trauma, and helped me to gradually and safely bring things that I had forgotten up to where they could be processed and dealt with. The affirmations continue to be a source of great strength for me ... in some of my lowest moments, I have heard your voice saying "I know that I am held in the hands of God and I am perfectly, utterly safe." At this, I cannot help but smile, even through my tears, as I know that it is true. Thank you for helping bring such healing to my world.

A therapist shared this with me at Bethesda (National Medical Center) and it was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.

I was cut off from my friends and family and subjected to years of mental, sexual, psychological and physical abuse, imprisonment and torture by a monster who played the part of an upstanding member of society in public. It took me a few tries to even get past the first minute or so--I felt like I didn't want ANYONE telling me what to do, think, or feel, since that's what had happened to me in the situation I'd been in. But once I relaxed and trusted Belleruth's CD enough to listen to the whole thing, the results were -- and continue to be -- profoundly healing and life-changing. I can't recommend this highly enough. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Belleruth.

I work with offenders in a prison. This means I work with trauma. I also work with people you don't think of first when thinking of who would happily engage in guided imagery. This disc is so powerful that the clients I have tried it with have, to a person, responded enthusiastically and thankfully. "It is deep! It is deep! I want to finish with that so I can carry this feeling for the rest of the day" said one particularly stressed out client after listening to this. It is a gift. It is challenging, and you pick carefully, but it is VERY VERY good for those who have done some guided imagery, are bought in that it works, and are willing to do it. There--it is deep and powerful.

This CD has been life changing, enabling me to feel safe and protected while working through the effects of severe trauma. I recommend this highly to anyone healing from PTSD. I listen to it often and am amazed at the results. With a grateful heart, I am so thankful for this tool in my recovery. Thank you Belleruth, you are a blessing.

I finally realized I was suffering from PTSD after 3 years of constant stress, beginning with severe axiety & panic attacks due to a international long distance relationship, followed by another 2 years of constant life changes such as, job loses, breakups, moves, financial instability. As a HSP-HSS (highly sensitive person-high sensation seeker) navigating emotions has always been a inescapable challenge. This incredible cd is the perfect treatment and relaxation technique which keeps my attention but also allows me to relax. THANKS A MILLION!

This is an amazing meditation. A friend gifted it to me when I spoke about mounting anxiety. I was unprepared for the reaction I had in the first listen. I wept hard. Each time images have come to me and I am committed to a full six weeks. To that end I am keeping a journal of the experiences by the day. Thank you for this beautiful gift.

I have suffered with PTSD for quite a while. I have tried medication and that only helps mask my suffering, it doesn’t help me heal from my trauma. Using the guided imagery and positive affirmations for PTSD, I feel so much more relaxed and refreshed after every session of listening. When I was first introduced to guided imagery, I was told it would take a couple of times of listening to really get the full effects. For me, it was only once and I took to it immediately. I am thankful for this cd and would recommend it to anyone who has problems with PTSD.

My partner brought this home to me and I finally felt understood. The journey into my own broken heart was an unprecedented experience, and helped me release years of pain and internal trauma. I listen to this CD often, and each time it's a new experience, awakening a different part of my experience(s), helping me through them. I have found more self-love and forgiveness than any counseling session could provide. Thank You!
