Caroline finds that guided imagery not only helped her lose weight (35 pounds), but helped her to stay focused inward, not on how she "should" look to others… As far as my story goes, I began listening to guided imagery tapes 3-4 years ago. I had a number of Health Journeys tapes at that point, and I was teaching stress management to inmates. I knew I wanted to lose weight, but I was in what you might call the "contemplation" stage.

In 2000, I ordered the Weight Loss tape, began listening, and I decided to join Weight Watchers. I weighed about 160 lbs. at 5''6". I followed the points plan, with success, but then seemed to get stuck. I began listening to the guided imagery for weight loss again daily, and was able to get back on track. I lost 25 lbs. in about 6 months.

I maintained that weight loss for about 2 and a half years. This last spring, I started noticing that I was tired in the afternoon, and had some headaches. As a junior high school teacher, I need a lot of energy. I decided to try and eat a bit better and get moving more. I started listening to the Weight Loss tape again, and I lost 10 more lbs.

I now weigh between 125-130. I don''t pay too much attention to the numbers now, just to how I feel. I walk regularly and do yoga. I make time to listen regularly to my weight loss tape, because I really believe that guided imagery gave me the push to the imagery, rather than just think about it. It also helps me maintain my healthy eating and exercise habits.

Most importantly, the imagery helps me focus inward. This helped me address how I feel about myself physically and mentally. This taught me to avoid pressure from the outside as to how I "should" look.
