Fertility Imagery Does Some Good
Someone just sent us the link to this very encouraging review of our Help with Fertility imagery. We think this woman nails some of the key features BR was really trying to achieve on this audio... the main thing being that there are many ways to have a positive outcome to this challenge, all the way from having your own pregnancy, to seeing your baby growing in somebody else's belly, to adopting your child, to being at peace with not becoming a parent.
We've been hearing a lot about increased negative self-talk - this seems to be a natural by-product for many people undergoing IVF and other daunting, baby-making procedures.
I just bought several guided imagery CDs. I put them all on my iTunes as well as additional tracks that I downloaded in order to browse all/compare and decide which ones to start using.
Belleruth's voice and words immediately drew me in, allowed me to relax, and the way she/the text seemed to understand exactly the way I was feeling and what I've gone through (3 years of infertility, 4 miscarriages, and now facing a 2nd IVF treatment with some fear and anxiety) was uncanny.
Lately I have been observing in myself more negative self talk than usual and I knew I needed to do something to combat it. Rather than just asking the listener to "let go" (ie NOT be stressed which can cause someone to then stress over being stressed!) she starts by acknowledging and validating the feelings one might have (and she was exactly right in my case!!). This was so reassuring and uplifting - to first be allowed to accept the feelings I have, THEN to let them go.
She empowers the process without making it feel goal-oriented. There is a subtle balance between doing these meditations (or any other practice like this) "in order to get pregnant" and/or simply in order to find a way to "just be", to allow, to trust the path that we're on.
This CD does this very well - you feel that doing these meditations brings you closer to your child but at the same time it makes "everything all right" regardless. A tough balance to strike!
I highly recommend this. And to everyone on this journey, I wish you the very best. It is one of the most difficult things I've ever gone through. Blessings to you all and I hope this CD will help.
Another woman writes:
I have been so grateful for these affirmations and meditations. I downloaded these mp3s after struggling to heal after a miscarriage and dealing with the painful experience of watching the new pregnancies of my friends, and have found the affirmations to be incredibly soul-sustaining in a difficult time.
Someone else, a counselor herself, writes:
After listening to the Fertility CD nearly daily for a month, my husband and I conceived. We had been trying to conceive for a year and 8 months. This is a wonderful tool to use to find peace with the process of conception and all of its possible outcomes.
Note: This title used to be called Help for Infertility, but we got many complaints about the focus on the negative word, infertility, and rightly so. Why call it Help for Infertility when you can call it Help for Fertility, emphasize the positive, and mean the same thing? Doh. So the minute we ran out of the old covers, we reprinted them with the new, improved title.
