Just another reminder to all you oncology professionals: there are free guided imagery CDs for Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy that you can get for your patients, thanks to Roche & GlaxoSmithkline.. Hello, all!

I want to take this time to remind you once more about how to access the available freebies, offered to oncology professionals - there’s a host of goodies to be had for your patients, absolutely free, thanks to Roche and GlaxoSmithkline. Some of you have already read this in our enewsletter, but for those of you who missed it, here it is again:

There are free guided imagery CDs for chemotherapy and radiation therapy that the pharmas have been giving away to hospitals, clinics, chemo and radiation units. This reminder was precipitated by the question you see below, emailed to us by a dedicated oncology nurse at Falmouth Hospital. Last week she wrote:

Hello Belleruth,

I’m suddenly having trouble obtaining your CD''s and audio tapes for our Chemotherapy, Oncology and Radiation patients. We have been using them here at Falmouth Hospital for a long time and miss them! Can you offer any suggestions or help on how to re-establish this fabulous service?? Our GlaxoSmithKline and Roche reps try but report these have become quite scarce.

Thanks so much for your help,
J.J., RN

So we’ve been looking into this, trying to figure out if this is just a local issue at Falmouth Hospital, or if GSK and Roche have actually run out again. (Our chemo CDs have been around as private label giveaways since 1992 and they’re reordered regularly).

So, our guy, Rich Coleman, looked into it and it turns out it’s a local glitch. Roche is now working to get some freebies back into this hospital. This makes sense, because both companies have reordered fairly recently - GSK with a big batch of Chemotherapy CDs, and Roche with both Radiation Therapy CDs and Chemo CDs.

But evidently the distribution has gotten spotty. This can happen with turnover of personnel and new product managers not being aware of how prized these freebies are by the nurses, social workers and docs for the way they mitigate anxiety and suffering in their patients. Soooooo.. If you’re a health professional working on an oncology floor, chemo unit or interventional radiology department, and your oncology rep just looks at you blankly when you ask for these goodies, please contact Our Man on the Ground, Rich Coleman, at [email protected] or 800.800.8661, and he’ll bug the pharma until your hospital or floor is properly hooked up.

For the long-term, to ensure these free resources stay in the pipeline, please just hound your oncology reps from Roche, GlaxoSmithkline, Ortho Biotech, Amgen or Abbott - or anyone else who crosses your path - whenever you can for MORE GUIDED IMAGERY CDS FOR MY PATIENTS, PLEASE.

Keep in mind, these are the exact same CDs that you buy on this site for $17.98 or more, only they’re privately labeled in a custom package, with the pharma’s brand on the outside. But it’s the same, exact $17.98 guided imagery on the inside.

We’re very proud to say that literally hundreds of thousands of cancer patients - maybe a half a million - have been helped through this method of distribution - people who never heard of guided imagery and wouldn’t know to ask for it, but because their trusted nurse handed it to them, they give it a try; and people who couldn’t afford the $17.98 at the retail price get them this way, too. We very much want to see this terrific, free service continue. And the best way to do this is to have all you nurses, docs, social workers and pastors bug your reps.

So please, sally forth and nag, cajole, hound and harass. You won''t be sorry, and neither will your patients.

Okay, that’s it.
Take care and be well.
