Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a non-profit community health organization that partners specially trained nurses with high-risk young women who are pregnant for the first time. Starting early in pregnancy and continuing until the child is two years old, the nurses visit regularly to coach participants in all the basics of becoming and being a great parent – everything from getting prenatal care, learning to breastfeed, and choosing a car seat to finding housing assistance and job training.

Dr. Debbie Hutchinson’s husband spent his time in the military as an Army Ranger, 82nnd Airborne and Long-Range Surveillance Detachment (LRSD) – a team that was repeatedly sent out to gather information by hiding deep within enemy territory for days at a time. The experience left him struggling to recover from posttraumatic stress, a journey that eventually led Dr. Hutchinson to found Turning Tides LLC, a family-owned organization that helps people heal from addiction, brain injuries, and emotional trauma.

State employees in Colorado enjoy a comprehensive employee assistance program as part of their benefits package. Operating out of eight offices statewide, the Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (CSEAP) supports employees with offerings that range from conflict resolution and professional coaching to mental health assessments and short-term counseling. It also refers state employees to external services while helping them navigate interactions with the state’s benefits department and insurance carrier.

When Christine “Cissy” White started her recovery from a traumatic childhood, she longed for a role model who could demonstrate how an adult could have post-traumatic stress but still live, love, and parent well. So she became one. Today, White is an in-demand activist, writer, and speaker who works with trauma survivors and the people helping them heal.

This week, we’re putting the spotlight on University Hospitals of Cleveland and their major initiative to thank employees for the effort, dedication, and self-sacrifices made month over month.
It all started in 1988: UHHS was the very first major institution to request a calming, reassuring guided imagery tape for chemotherapy patients in the waiting room — they took a chance on us, and in effect, launched us and gave us legitimacy in the world of traditional health care.
And in August 2018, the launched a customized streaming page of a dozen stress-relieving, empowering, procedure-easing meditations for providers, staff, patients, and their very own selves.

LifeSpark Cancer Resources is a non-profit organization that provides eight weeks of free Reiki and Healing Touch to individuals with cancer and their caregivers. In March of this year, they switched from hands-on sessions to distant/internet sessions to keep everyone safe, and added guided imagery from Health Journeys to support care and focus during and after each session.

Today, we’re putting a spotlight on Wings of Hope Cancer Support Center. Wings of Hope offers support and guidance for those battling cancer at all stages of their illness, and help to families and friends coping with cancer in their lives, serving Omaha Metro and Southwest Iowa, free of charge.
