Modeled on Alice Domar’s course for women facing fertility challenges, this Cadillac of 10-session programs expands on what Domar has done, to help the women understand the effects of stress on their lives, and teach them tools and skills for coping, achieving the relaxation response, communicating, self-nurturing, and building resilience.
Besides learning about the relaxation response, mindfulness meditation, and various cognitive-behavioral issues, this program adds an increased group discussion component, as well as a series of guest speakers who expose women to a variety of healing therapies, including specialized nutrition for fertility, forgiveness, medical qigong, expressive arts, and couples massage (partners are included for selected sessions).
The women are given workbooks, a fertility guided imagery CD, weekly homework assignments, serial psychometric tests, and parallel private sessions as well.
The response has been tremendous, and the first, pioneer class has already made plans to continue meeting on their own. This year the program will be expanded, using research results of its efficacy, both in terms of womens'' well-being as well as pregnancy, and modifying the program based on what is learned.
